Happy New Year

Happy 2017!

I went back to work yesterday after being off for 8 days and my goodness it was rough waking up.

My nephews and sister-in-law were with us for the holidays and it was a lot of fun hanging out with them. They’re both growing fast and while I love capturing them in pictures and photos, I need to remember to enjoy the moments. Not everything has to be photographed. The boys were a handful and kept me on my toes.

The end of the year wasn’t too busy for me but it did allow me to reflect on the past year. I didn’t reach all my goals but that won’t stop me from setting more in 2017.

Goals for 2017
* Weight loss — yes this is a goal for me every year but I feel this will be the year I make significant progress. The Ketogenic way of eating has been a life changer for me and I’m excited to see what I can do in a full year.

* Work towards saving for a down payment for a condo. This will probably take longer than a year but I plan on saving diligently this year. I’ll have to stop my impulse buying (It’s a pretty big habit of mine)

* Clean closet — this is a huge task since I have a ton of crap in my closet, not just clothes. Whenever I try and work on cleaning it, I get overwhelmed and quit. If I break it up into small tasks it might be a more manageable project.

As far as reading goes, I didn’t reach 100 books but I was pretty close, ended up finishing 95 books. My 2017 goal is 75 books so we shall see how that goes.

I started re-reading the Harry Potter series and plan on watching the movies too. I received the 8-disc set for Christmas so I can watch anytime I want.

Anyway, it’s time for lunch and I’m starving. Enjoy your Wednesday!

Hamilton Musical & My Goodreads Challenge

Hey all!

I hope you all had a great week! Let me tell you about my latest obsession, the Broadway musical Hamilton! I have been listening to the cast recording non-stop! Written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the play is about founding father, Alexander Hamilton. The play tells the story of Hamilton and uses hip-hop and R&B music to do it.  I loved the music so much I really want to plan a trip to New York just to see it! In all reality this probably won’t happen but I’m going to see what I can do. Who wouldn’t want to see an awesome play on Broadway?? If you haven’t listened to the cast recording, I highly recommend it.

Here’s a short clip of the play

Goodreads Challenge

At the beginning of the year I set my 2015 Goodreads challenge at 52 books because I was working on the 2015 Pop Sugar reading challenge. I ended up lowering it to 43 because I was reading books that had an average of 600 pages and just wasn’t getting through them as fast as I would have liked. Also, I kept finding books that didn’t really fit into any of the categories on the challenge.

As of today I think I’ve checked off 28 categories from the Pop Sugar challenge, which isn’t that terrible. I’m currently at 40 books read right now and at the moment I will probably exceed my goal of 43, not by much though. Next year I am going to be ambitious and set my goal at 75. I am an avid reader and want to get back to finishing books in a few days, like I used to do.

One of the blogs I follow, Sincerely, Sara, had a great post about reading more and it’s inspired me to do just that.

That’s all for now. Have a wonderful weekend!

Time is just flying by

Hello, July!

I swear it feels like I just did my June post last week. Hard to believe the year is half over already.

Reflecting back on my June goals, things didn’t go quite as well as I would have liked.

*I didn’t meet my daily water goals. I think I killed three plants in my Plant Nanny app

*I didn’t reach my 150 mile Fitbit goal, my grand total was 89.73. Not horrible, but not great either. Not meeting the goal means I don’t get my medal and I kinda wasted my money. But, that’s nobody’s fault but my own.

*I did pretty well with tracking my food, until the week I left for San Francisco. I didn’t even bring my journal with me. For shame!

*Limiting my sweets…nope, didn’t happen.

But hey, I can’t beat myself up over this or else I’ll end up doing more damage since I tend to eat my feelings. On to the next month!

Goals:

Try again with the Fitkini Body Challenge

Stay accountable with friends…we plan on checking in with each other everyday

Don’t obsess about the scale

Meal prep!

Stay positive

ALA 2015

My trip to San Francisco was fun, but I don’t feel I got as much out of the conference as I have in previous years. I didn’t get to stay as long as I wanted to so I missed out on some good sessions. I’ve been trying to work on my Readers’ Advisory skills so I went to some sessions that focused on that. My main focus right now is YA since I know I don’t have much experience in that area. I want to be able to recommend titles to teens without having to use Goodreads.

I told myself this would be my last ALA for a while since next year is in Orlando, but I think I will try to make it out there. I’ll just have to start saving money now since I have to think of airfare plus hotel. The one thing I am proud about is that I didn’t bring a million ARCS home. The temptation was definitely there, but I behaved myself. I still have ARCS from my previous conferences that I haven’t read yet. In fact, I have a bookshelf full of them. I’ll get to them though, eventually.

Not sure I’ll post again before the holiday so I hope you have a wonderful 4th of July!
