**I swear I thought I posted this last week — but clearly I didn’t hit the correct button**
Soo I’m still here! I’ve been terrible at keeping up with at least one post every other week and I can’t even promise I’ll do better, 😆. March is in full swing and things have been pretty busy for me. Work is going great, I love my job. Summer Reading is coming up and this will be my first time organizing for my library. Previously, when I was a Library assistant, all the full-time staff worked on planning and preparing and I just followed their directions. This year will be different since I’m in charge of both children’s and teens but I’m excited.
I’m behind on my reading challenge but should be almost caught up once I finish the three books I’m reading. Since I work with kids a lot I’m trying to read at least one juvenile fiction book per month. I finished Oddity by Sarah Cannon a couple weeks and it was really cute. The main reason I chose to read it was because I loved the cover. I’m currently in the middle of reading The Wishing Spell (Book 1 in The Land of Stories series) by Chris Colfer and it’s ok. I’m having a hard time staying focused on it but I know it’s a popular series for juveniles. After I finish The Wishing Spell, I will be starting Wishtree by Katherine Applegate.
Anyway, I’m off to enjoy my Saturday, Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Happy September and Happy Labor Day!
I am spending the week with family in Illinois and it has been super relaxing so far. I went to a family BBQ in Gary, IN this afternoon and it was wonderful to see so many family members. Many of them I hadn’t seen since my grandparents’ 60th wedding anniversary in 2014.
One of the best things about being in the Midwest is it isn’t 100+ degrees outside! When I left California, we were in the middle of a heat advisory, and now there are wildfires burning out of control.
Tomorrow my aunt is taking me to her fitness center so we can both get a workout in. I brought workout clothes with me but wasn’t really going to try too hard to get a workout in so this will be nice. When I go to my grandma’s house later this week, I can walk around her property.
Once I return to California I will really have to buckle down with portions and watching what I eat. Over the last couple months I’ve been bingeing every weekend and it definitely shows on the scale. I wish I could be one of those people who hides their scale but I need to see the number each week just to keep me motivated. I’ve started over so many times, sometimes I wonder why I even bother. Things were going so well during this time last year and now they’re not. But, all I can do is keep trying.
Have a good week!
It’s pretty late right now but I’m awake and not quite ready to go to sleep so I figured I’d come write up a blog post. It’s been a while but I’m still here! I’ve been really struggling with my Keto diet big time since the Winter holidays. I am pretty good at staying away from bread and stuff but man, that sugar demon keeps taking over! Even though it’s been hard to stick with my macros lately, I know I can do this. Instead of focusing on my large goal, I’m going to set mini daily goals so I can at least feel I’m working towards something. I’ve been losing and gaining the same 5lbs for the last two months.
Anyway, today was National Pet Day and I showed Roco my appreciation by taking him to the vet to get a shot. Lol, it was necessary but I hate how nervous he gets at the vet. All went well and we were out of there in an hour.
Exercise-wise I’m still working out but no longer doing the Strong Curves program. I made it to week 9 and then decided to switch to this workout . I was enjoying the Strong Curves program but schedule wise, it just wasn’t working for me. I get off work most days during the week at 8pm and by the time I get to the gym it is 8:30 and then I still have to change clothes. In addition to that, I hate having to wait for certain machines so instead of doing that I can do my KB workout at home. I’m in the process of trying to get back to just one job so maybe once that happens, I’ll be able to go to the gym before work versus going after work. I’ve only been doing the KB program for about a week and while I have yet to do 500 swings during one workout, I can feel myself getting stronger. I’m currently using an 18lb KB but may switch to my 26lb KB towards once I hit 5,000 swings, or somewhere around that number.
I finished C25K back in March and have started on C210K. I could have started at week 9 since I just finished C25K but I’m starting from the beginning just because I want to easy runs to look forward to. Lazy, I know. I signed up for the Big Sur Half Marathon again so after C210K, I may try and do the half marathon version. I have never fully trained properly for a half marathon and I’d like to. It comes down to me setting a schedule and sticking to it. I would also have to plan some outside runs because I can only do so many miles on my treadmill.
Anyway, I’m off to bed now. Goodnight!
I mistakenly set this post as a blog page, lol. It’s from either end of January or early February, I don’t even remember. Anyway, here it is!
I figured I’d type up a quick blog post before I went to the grocery store. My motivation to blog has been absent lately. Part of it I can probably blame on laziness, but I do feel I should blog at least once a week. Hopefully I will do better next month.
I’ve started cleaning out my closet and other parts of my room. On my last post, I was reminded about Marie Kondo’s book, The Art of Tidying Up. I read it back in 2015 and never actually tried her methods. Fast forward to now, her folding method is a total game changer. I love that my drawers are so organized now! I still have much more to do but it’s a great start. Thanks for the reminder Sunnie! So far I’ve donated three bags of clothes to Goodwill and will donate more soon.
As far as health and weight loss goes, after a couple weeks of struggling, I’m finally back on track with my Keto diet. After indulging during the holidays, it was extremely difficult for me to get back on track. It’s so easy to snack on foods you’re not supposed to eat. I think if I had never cheated back in November, this wouldn’t have been a problem. I need to learn that holidays aren’t an excuse to fall off the wagon.
I’ve been running a lot, and will soon be starting another strength training program, Strong Curves, with my sister-in-law. We were supposed to start tomorrow buuut I am still reading the book so my start date may be pushed back until next Monday.
Anyway, I need to get to the store so I can meal prep for the week. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
I went back to work yesterday after being off for 8 days and my goodness it was rough waking up.
My nephews and sister-in-law were with us for the holidays and it was a lot of fun hanging out with them. They’re both growing fast and while I love capturing them in pictures and photos, I need to remember to enjoy the moments. Not everything has to be photographed. The boys were a handful and kept me on my toes.
The end of the year wasn’t too busy for me but it did allow me to reflect on the past year. I didn’t reach all my goals but that won’t stop me from setting more in 2017.
Goals for 2017
* Weight loss — yes this is a goal for me every year but I feel this will be the year I make significant progress. The Ketogenic way of eating has been a life changer for me and I’m excited to see what I can do in a full year.
* Work towards saving for a down payment for a condo. This will probably take longer than a year but I plan on saving diligently this year. I’ll have to stop my impulse buying (It’s a pretty big habit of mine)
* Clean closet — this is a huge task since I have a ton of crap in my closet, not just clothes. Whenever I try and work on cleaning it, I get overwhelmed and quit. If I break it up into small tasks it might be a more manageable project.
As far as reading goes, I didn’t reach 100 books but I was pretty close, ended up finishing 95 books. My 2017 goal is 75 books so we shall see how that goes.
I started re-reading the Harry Potter series and plan on watching the movies too. I received the 8-disc set for Christmas so I can watch anytime I want.
Anyway, it’s time for lunch and I’m starving. Enjoy your Wednesday!
Happy Hump Day! Over the weekend I drove to Northern California to see my friend Susy get married. Seeing her so happy was totally worth driving 14 hours round trip. Her and her new husband are currently on their Honeymoon in Hawaii 😀. I told myself I’d never do that drive again but ironically enough, I have a half marathon in Monterey next month. Not nearly as far but still at least 5 hours of driving. Those beach views better be worth it!
Anyway, life has been going ok. I’ve been doing the Keto diet for two months and so far in down 13.3lbs. I’m noticing changes in my body and it feels so amazing. When I was at the wedding, I passed up mac and cheese, veggie lasagna, mashed potatoes, and cake! Saying no to those foods wasn’t hard at all. I do miss pasta but I’ve found spaghetti squash is a really good substitute, especially when I eat it with homemade Alfredo sauce. My parents still haven’t really grasped what I can and cannot eat but they’re still supportive. My dad even said he was proud of me for sticking with this, major non-scale victory.
On the reading side of things, I’ve been reading like crazy. I read six books in September and so far I’ve finished three books this month. One of the big ones I recently finished was book 8 in the Outlander series, Written in my Own Heart’s Blood. Sooo good! When I first discovered the series I thought all the books had been released but, I was wrong. Diana Gabaldon is currently working on book 9. The way things are going, I don’t doubt she’ll be finished before the next Game of Thrones book is released.
I’ve completed my Goodreads challenge! I pledged to read 60 books this year and so far I’m at 63. Next year I’ll have pledge at least 75.
Anyway, have a lovely day. I’m determined to get some exercise in today since I haven’t worked out since last week. 😄
I’ve been doing Keto for a little over a month and so far I am down 9.8lbs. While I’ve been doing fine with the food, I have been getting a little tired of red meat. I’m going to try to add more fish and chicken over the next couple weeks just so I don’t lose my mind. I miss pasta sometimes but I’ve been able to have spaghetti squash as a substitute. It isn’t the same but when it’s mixed with a delicious homemade Alfredo sauce, it’s not bad at all. I found Alfredo recipe on reddit and I liked it so much, I made it again the following week. So delicious.
I’ve started taking a multivitamin as well as a magnesium/calcium supplement. Vitamins have never been part of my daily routine so my goal is just to remember to take them each day. They’re huge horse pills too so yeah, fun times. I still need to get one more supplement this week since my potassium levels are low. My muscles have been cramping so I need to up my potassium.
I haven’t noticed a change in my body personally but people around me have noticed a change and that is very encouraging. The other day my dad told me he was proud of me for sticking with this. Normally when he buys ice cream or makes chocolate chip cookies, I’m all over those. But, I haven’t cheated one time. The low-carb treats I’ve made have helped too.
As far as workouts go, I’ve been doing mostly cardio. I’d planned on starting a Kettle Bell program but I still need to read the book that has the program in it. The book was recommended in one of the Keto Facebook groups I am in and I hope to start reading it by the end of the week.
This has nothing to do with Keto but I just wanted to say how excited I am that football is back! My team (49ers) probably won’t do too well this season and that’s ok. I’m excited to watch the games each week as well as keep up on my fantasy teams. Each year I say I’m not going to play and each year I don’t say no. Fantasy is fun but since I have multiple teams, it kind of ruins the fun part. That being said, I’m determined to win at least one of these leagues.
I’ll try to post an update on my latest reads later this week.
Have a great Monday! 🙂
