Peace out, 2017

There is about an hour until the year is officially over and I’m currently binge watching Blacklist on Netflix. I haven’t really done any kind of partying on New Year’s Eve in a long time and I’m OK with that. I finished a book earlier and plan on watching TV and reading for the rest of the evening. I’m so old!

As far as reading goes, I read 77 books this year. I only tracked a couple children’s books even though I read several per week for story time at my library. For next year’s challenge, I thought about counting every single book I read, including children’s books, just to see how many I’ll read in a year, BUT I feel counting the children’s books is cheating. I just think it would be interesting to see all that I read in one year, children’s books included. Once the 2018 challenge opens up, I’ll decide what to set my number at. Obviously if I include children’s books I will set the number high 🙂 In addition to the Goodreads challenge, I’m doing a few other reading challenges as well. Right now I’m going to try Flourish & Blotts (someone from one of my Facebook groups created this one but I haven’t found a website yet), 26 Books Challenge with Bringing up Burns (I’d saved a prompt for this but I think it was for a previous year, she hasn’t posted the one for 2018 yet), and 2018 Modern Mrs. Darcy Reading Challenge. More than likely I’ll add one more. My goal for some of the challenge categories is to choose from books I already own — I have enough of them.

There are several goals floating around in my head and eventually I’ll write them out but right now I’m going to enjoy what’s left of 2017 and pray that 2018 is good to me.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year

Happy 2017!

I went back to work yesterday after being off for 8 days and my goodness it was rough waking up.

My nephews and sister-in-law were with us for the holidays and it was a lot of fun hanging out with them. They’re both growing fast and while I love capturing them in pictures and photos, I need to remember to enjoy the moments. Not everything has to be photographed. The boys were a handful and kept me on my toes.

The end of the year wasn’t too busy for me but it did allow me to reflect on the past year. I didn’t reach all my goals but that won’t stop me from setting more in 2017.

Goals for 2017
* Weight loss — yes this is a goal for me every year but I feel this will be the year I make significant progress. The Ketogenic way of eating has been a life changer for me and I’m excited to see what I can do in a full year.

* Work towards saving for a down payment for a condo. This will probably take longer than a year but I plan on saving diligently this year. I’ll have to stop my impulse buying (It’s a pretty big habit of mine)

* Clean closet — this is a huge task since I have a ton of crap in my closet, not just clothes. Whenever I try and work on cleaning it, I get overwhelmed and quit. If I break it up into small tasks it might be a more manageable project.

As far as reading goes, I didn’t reach 100 books but I was pretty close, ended up finishing 95 books. My 2017 goal is 75 books so we shall see how that goes.

I started re-reading the Harry Potter series and plan on watching the movies too. I received the 8-disc set for Christmas so I can watch anytime I want.

Anyway, it’s time for lunch and I’m starving. Enjoy your Wednesday!

2016…I’m ready for you

I hope you all had a nice holiday. I’m currently in Georgia visiting my brother and his family, having a great time. Ironically, the weather here is better than the weather back home in California. I’ve been told it’s been as low as 34 degrees! It’s been about 70 here in GA. Gloomy and rainy at this times. While I’m looking forward to going home, I’m not looking forward to the cold.

It’s the last day of 2015! I say this every year but time went by way too fast. I have great memories or 2015 and look forward to making more in 2016.

Of course with the start of a new year, I like to set goals –haha, like many people. Some of my goals for 2016 include:

• continuing with my debt snowball — still have quite a way to go with that

• logging more miles

• reaching my daily water goals –I continue to struggle with this.

• cleaning my room using the KonMari method — I’ve been saying I need to do this for a long time but have been procrastinating

First race of 2016

My first race of 2016 is the Carlsbad Half Marathon. It’s going to be so cold! Normally I don’t like wearing a jacket at the start of a race because I warm up quickly but if this cold weather keeps up, I’ll have to get a throw away sweatshirt or something. I’ve heard the views along the course are beautiful, can’t wait to experience them. I’ll be running it with my friend, Amber.

1,000 miles challenge

Yep, 1,000 miles in one year. I wanted to do a similar challenge last year but the thought of logging 1,000 miles in a year intimidated me. Decided to just do it this year and think small goals. 1,000 miles in 366 days is roughly 2.74 miles per day. Totally doable! I’ll be walking and running. If you want to sign up, here’s my referral link

2015 Goodreads Challenge

Done! My goal was 43 books and I read 46. Not sure what I’ll set my 2016 goal at yet, probably 50. Maybe 55. Or hell, maybe I’ll be adventurous and say 75! Haha.

I will be doing another round of Whole30 starting January 4, 2016. I enjoyed the holidays and all the wonderful food but now it’s time to get back to reality. I did well during my first round of Whole30 back in September but ended up regressing and going back to bad habits. I’m not perfect. I hope to do well again this round and stick with some of the eating habits. This time around I’m doing it with friends and one of my Facebook groups. There have been wonderful meal ideas already so I’ll be prepping for that once I get back to California.

Ok, I’m headed to the airport. Long day of traveling ahead. Happy New Year’s Eve!
