Struggling but still trying 


So my jump into Whole30 didn’t go well. I have had a few restarts and am honestly thinking about just jumping straight back to Keto which is what I wanted to eventually transition to anyway. 

I’m headed to Georgia for a week and since my sister-in-law is on really good with sticking with our food plans, I don’t think I’ll have too many issues. Of course, the snacks for my nephews will be there but I will just have to pass them up. 

After I get back I need to do more strength training. The plan is to do at least 2x per week for now. 

Anyway, I just wanted to type up a quick update. I am frustrated with myself for my lack of control and will power but know I’m not the only person dealing with this. 

One day at a time. 


Happy New Year 

Happy 2017!

I went back to work yesterday after being off for 8 days and my goodness it was rough waking up. 

My nephews and sister-in-law were with us for the holidays and it was a lot of fun hanging out with them. They’re both growing fast and while I love capturing them in pictures and photos, I need to remember to enjoy the moments. Not everything has to be photographed. The boys were a handful and kept me on my toes. 

The end of the year wasn’t too busy for me but it did allow me to reflect on the past year. I didn’t reach all my goals but that won’t stop me from setting more in 2017. 

Goals for 2017
* Weight loss — yes this is a goal for me every year but I feel this will be the year I make significant progress. The Ketogenic way of eating has been a life changer for me and I’m excited to see what I can do in a full year. 

* Work towards saving for a down payment for a condo. This will probably take longer than a year but I plan on saving diligently this year. I’ll have to stop my impulse buying (It’s a pretty big habit of mine)

* Clean closet — this is a huge task since I have a ton of crap in my closet, not just clothes. Whenever I try and work on cleaning it, I get overwhelmed and quit. If I break it up into small tasks it might be a more manageable project. 

As far as reading goes, I didn’t reach 100 books but I was pretty close, ended up finishing 95 books. My 2017 goal is 75 books so we shall see how that goes. 

I started re-reading the Harry Potter series and plan on watching the movies too. I received the 8-disc set for Christmas so I can watch anytime I want.

It’s working!


I know it’s still early but oh my goodness, Keto is working! I started on Monday August 8th and I’m very proud that I have not cheated one time. For one thing, cheating would only hurt me since it would through my body out of ketosis and I’d have to start over. My co-worker at the library gave me a bunch of books on the low carb lifestyle, including some cookbooks. It will take while for me to get through them since there are so many but I’m grateful to her for letting me borrow them.

Giving up the sugary snacks wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be since I’m still able to make sugar-free treats when I feel the need. I have some favorites right now but there are many more out there I haven’t tried yet. I haven’t had the pasta craving yet but when that comes, I have a couple of recipes in mind. Since I can still have my beloved cream sauce, I’m going to make some type of Alfredo dish.

It’s amazing how many Keto resources are out there. I was never interested in Reddit before but once I found the Keto subreddit, I was hooked. If I ever have a question about something, it’s almost guaranteed someone else has had the same questions. The search feature on there has helped me out tremendously. When it comes to public message boards and Facebook groups, I’m always hesitant to post because I don’t want to come off sounding stupid or dumb. It’s silly but whatever.

I’ve still been working out but haven’t been running as much. I don’t think my body is fully fat adapted yet but hopefully it will be soon. Lately I’ve been doing a lot of cycling and elliptical at the gym. I have a race in November so I really need to get on a training schedule. The one thing I have noticed as far as changes in my body is the cramping. Yesterday I took a spin class at my gym and during the stretch-session after I was over, I could feel a cramp start in my legs. Increasing my sodium will hopefully help with this issue. Egg drop soup is a quick and easy way to get that in!

Anyway, I’ll report back in two weeks on my progress. I haven’t been this excited about weight loss since I lost weight many years ago doing Weight Watchers.

Intermittent Fasting


Remember I told you I signed up for a 6 month DietBet with my sister-in-law?? Well silly me didn’t pay attention to the rules because I was thinking as long as I made my final weight, I’d get my money back and then part of the winner’s pot. Ahh no, doesn’t work that way, I have to weigh in each month. So, I didn’t even come close to the goal set for last month so now the pressure is on so I can catch up and meet my next goal by June 19th.

When I did my last DietBet back in January, I was very close to my goal towards the end and in order to make sure I hit that goal, I tried a few days of Intermittent Fasting (IF). Long story short, IF consists of fasting for several hours and then eating your meals within an 8 hour period. Usually people will fast 16 hours and then eat during an 8 hour period. I did started my first official day of fasting on Thursday. I finished eating at 7:30pm and didn’t eat again until lunch on Friday, which was around 12pm. Most of my fasting was done while I was asleep which was perfect for me since I can’t see myself being awake and not eating for 16 hours, lol. Also, since I don’t always eat breakfast, skipping it wasn’t a huge deal.


I’m going to try this out for the next few weeks and see how it goes. Even though I’m fasting for those hours, that doesn’t mean I can eat whatever the hell I want. I still need to pay attention to my macros and focus on hitting my protein numbers.

Speaking of protein, one of the blogs I follow, Hungry Runner Girl, posted about a chicken burrito bowl she found at Costco that has 30g of protein! I found it last night while running my errands and I can’t wait to try it. The package comes with three bowls and I’m really hoping they’re delicious because that will knock out more than a quarter of my protein macros for the day.


Last night I stopped eating around 9pm and walked a couple of miles before work this morning. I will tell you this, taking pre-workout on an empty stomach gets me suuuuper pumped. Pretty sure my dog thought I was crazy as I was dancing and singing while doing my walk.
